2020 Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley

$85.00

The Alexander Valley AVA was made famous by the likes of Silver Oak and Jordan Wineries. As many of you might know, 2020 was a Vintage where you either picked before or after the very destructive Glass Fire that ripped through both Napa & Sonoma counties. Luckily for us, we picked early and often to avoid the ill effects of the fires & their smoke plumes.

Our 2020 AV Cabernet is a fine example of this vintage and was aged in 30% new French oak and 70% once-used American & French oak. The resulting wine is soft and approachable now but will only get better in the next 2-5 years.

Alexander Valley AVA is a Mediterranean climate with wet, cool winters and arid summers that are tempered by the nearby Pacific Ocean influence. The rocky volcanic soils of the valley are well-drained and characterized by a diverse mineral composition which helps Bordeaux grape tannin profiles thrive. The results are fruit that achieve a balanced ripeness profile maximizing vibrancy and complexity of flavors. The 2018 Vintage began with a cool start providing a near perfect fruit set. Moderate temperatures extended through the entire growth season resulting in a harvest that started later than average. These growing conditions allowed for a steady maturation of the grapes which provided excellent flavor development while preserving acidity and freshness.

Cherry, raspberry, and dried herb aromas laced with hints of vanilla and tobacco. The palate has an alluring weight and velvety texture filled with intense flavors of black cherries and blackberries, all elevated by a lovely backbone of spice notes from extended aging in French oak barrels. Blackberries and hints of dried herbs linger through the long, spice-kissed finish.  Drink now through 2028.
