The Phipps Family Cellars 2023 Petaluma Gap Pinot Noir was sourced from the Pepperwood Vineyard in Marin County, a lovely hillside vineyard that lies at an elevation of 250’-400’.

These grapes were picked overnight and arrived at the winery in cool, perfect condition. To maintain a fruit-driven profile in the finished wine, the berries were removed from the stems before fermentation. We fermented the wine with a yeast known for expressing the delicate fruit, floral aromatics & varietal spice nuance. After fermenting dry, the must was lightly pressed & separated into free run & press fractions. These fractions were later blended at the ideal ratios to offer great varietal structure while maintaining the wine’s fruit driven core & approachable character.

In the nose, expect aromas of cherry, rose water & hibiscus intertwined with sage, baking spices & cardamom. Fruit-forward flavors of strawberry, raspberry, red currant & pomegranate are balanced by refreshing acidity, that dances on the palate with moves like Mick Jagger. On the finish, savory notes of umami are wrapped in sweet tobacco, cedar, and granite minerality followed by lingering vanilla. Overall, the gentle yet lush tannins lead to the lingering & complex finish.
